4 Questions To Answer Before Renting A Loader For Your Construction Operation

Johnny Murray

When you need a little extra moving power on a worksite as a construction business owner, it may be logical to rent a loader from an industrial equipment rental company. Here is a look at some of the questions you should know the answers to before picking out the best equipment piece.

Do you need a loader with tracks, or will wheels suffice?

When renting several types of construction equipment, including a loader, you may have the option of picking a vehicle with wheels or tracks. Wheels work better in some scenarios and worksite situations, and tracks can work better in others. For example, wheels will do better if you are on a site where there is ample gravel or paved surfaces, but tracks are the better option if you are doing work on a site that is mostly undeveloped and has grass and dirt. Consider your needs as you make the decision about the loader you will need for your project.

Do you have a vehicle substantially sized to haul the loader?

A loader can be one of the larger pieces of construction equipment you can rent, and you will need a vehicle large enough to haul the equipment to the worksite. For example, you may need a large flatbed trailer connected to a semi-truck. If you do not have the proper equipment for hauling, you will have to make arrangements for equipment delivery, which may be offered by the rental store.

What type of materials will you be moving with the loader?

Are you primarily planning to use the loader to transport and move dirt, or will you be moving heavier gravel and concrete? These are things to consider when you rent a loader because it will tell you a lot about what size of a loader you need. If you will be moving larger materials, you may need a larger, more powerful piece of equipment.

Are you going to need additional attachments for the loader?

The main attachment used with a loader is obviously the bucket or scoop on the front. However, you can also rent other attachments that can be useful on a construction site. For instance, if you will be using the loader to compact the ground where concrete will eventually be poured, it can be helpful to have a vibrating roller attachment. Or, if you will be using the loader for rock removal, you may need something like a rock bucket.
