Swing Gates
Swing gates are very elegant, but they do need significant space in order to function. There are a couple of different styles of swing gates, such as single- and double-swing. These are great choices if you have a home with traditional architecture, such as Victorian, Colonial, or French styles. They are popular in private communities. Keep in mind that swing gates will require heavy-duty posts in order to support their weight.
Sliding Gates
If you have limited space or a short driveway, then a sliding gate may be what you need. It serves as an alternative to a swing gate, which requires more room and could intrude on your parked vehicle or the roadway. However, you will still require a decent amount of space on at least one side of the fence in order to accommodate the sliding gate. You could opt for a bi-parting sliding gate, which would allow for the gate to be evenly split onto either side of the fence and driveway.
Cantilever Gates
Conventional slide gates slide on a track, but cantilever gates glide on rollers that have been mounted onto posts. It is a trackless design that is incredibly convenient since the tracks often detract from the overall aesthetic. In addition, the tracks must be kept clear of debris, ice, snow, etc. Therefore, cantilever gates are ideal for areas where there is a lot of snowfall.
Telescopic Gates
Telescopic gates are often referred to as "stacker gates" and are great for areas where there is limited space. These gates have two or three panels that slide and stack together sideways as the gate opens. Because of this, not as much space is needed for the gate to function. These gates normally slide on tracks, which will need to be kept clean and clear.
